Proof Planning : A Practical Approach to MechanisedReasoning

Proof planning, rst introduced by Bundy, is an approach to humanoriented theorem proving. In this contribution we rst relate this approach to other approaches to mechanised reasoning. Then we describe in detail an approach to proof planning in which the proof plan operators are represented declaratively. This allows for their mechanical adaptation. Thereby it is possible to model certain aspects of the human ability to extend their problem solving knowledge when they encounter novel situations, for which they have no adequate problem solving techniques.
